Don Macdonald is an internationally recognized film and choral music composer and he is also a performer on voice, violin, and saxophone. He has performed in styles such as folk, R&B, classical, and conemporary techno but is primarily known as an improviser and jazz musician. His eclectic journey is evident in his recent album releases. His first jazz violin album, “Shifting Sands”, features his own compositions and a stellar lineup of Canadian jazz artists, "Breath" showcases his own choral compositions with only two performers: he and his wife, Allison Girvan, and “Carried” is a rock/pop album that features his song writing and vocals.
“With Shifting Sands, Macdonald offers complexity and compositional variety, as well as a lot of fun. It simply swings its way through a number of intriguing and surprisingly varied styles and nails them all. ★★★★ out of five.” Keith Black – Winnipeg Free Press
“This is a must-listen-to joyous release. Macdonald’s virtuosic works and violin playing never disappoint. All the stellar musicians play exuberantly, with care and respect.” Tiina Kiik – thewholenote.com
“Macdonald and company weave in and out of atypical textures on this fusion affair that’s sure to keep the listener enthralled.”
